Secret Tour with Veneto Segreto

Thiene Castle is considered the most conspicuous Gothic building of the 15th century that arose in the Vicenza area for use as a civil residence; an extraordinary example of a pre-Palladian Venetian villa, a unique specimen of its kind, both in terms of architectural features and functional purpose, a cornerstone in the evolution of Venetian villas.
Architecturally, the Venetian villa found its most accomplished expression in the 16th century with the constructions of Andrea Palladio (1508 - 1580), who succeeded in synthesizing aesthetic and functional requirements into a type of villa that remained essentially the same until the fall of the Serenissima in 1797. But Palladio did not invent the concept of the villa: he renewed the forms that these agricultural dwellings had already acquired over previous centuries.
The castle thus stands as a model for the later developments of Venetian villas, as a stately residence and a place of cultured and refined life in the countryside where the family's interests were linked.
