Archives and Libraries in Historic between past and future

After the success of last year, which saw the opening of more than 110 archives located throughout the country, the 3rd edition of “Cards in Residence. Archives and Libraries: stories between past and future” on Saturday, October 11, 2025 promoted by ADSI Associazione Dimore Storiche Italiane. The event will flank the Ministry of Culture's (MIC) “Paper Sunday” initiative, which for many years has organized the opening of public libraries and state archives, scheduled this year for Sunday, Oct. 12.
A.D.S.I supports the Ministry's initiative to emphasize the unity of cultural intentions, in the knowledge that many historic houses possess libraries and archives rich in precious traces of our past and worthy of sharing, on a par with public ones.
Thiene Castle has joined the initiative and proposes an experience of art, architecture and discovery with the consultation of some documents from the historical archives kept in the Castle. With the invaluable help of archivist Sofia Stefani, visitors will be accompanied to discover ancient deeds, writings and files. The meeting will take place in the Church of the Nativity of Mary outside the Castle walls.
The visit is FREE with reservations required. As a reminder, the Castle will be open for visits from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. with an entrance fee.
Many archives, located in castles, fortresses, villas and palaces will be open for visits throughout Italy, thus allowing a journey through the history of our country through places rich in precious traces of our past that can also help us better understand the present. The initiative encapsulates the true meaning of the role of a historic homeowner, a custodian of history with the task of enhancing and passing it on, illustrating the significance it can have for the future also from an employment point of view.
Private archives and libraries, with their papers, books and manuscripts, represent tangible evidence of the evolution of territories and how historic homes are a fundamental element of it. The opening will again see collaboration with the General Directorate for Archives, the General Directorate for Libraries and Copyright, and the National Association of Memory Houses, as well as the support of Foundations, Museums, Touring Clubs and AICRAB as part of events aimed at promoting the knowledge and appreciation of archival and library heritage.
